I am pleased to announce that Payment Logic is the first bill payment service provider to implement Confirmation of Payee!
What is Confirmation of Payee?
Confirmation of Payee is an automated fraud-prevention service now available in the Payment Logic platform. It checks the name of the person or company you are paying and compares it to the name on the bank account you’ve entered.
Confirmation of Payee (CoP) helps you make informed decisions by adding an extra layer of protection before you make a payment. This helps reduce the risk of making payment to the wrong account and helps protect you from Payment Redirection or Business Email compromise scams.
How it Works
After you enter payment details, our system checks to see if the account name, BSB, and account number you entered match the information held by the recipient’s bank.
A match outcome is automatically displayed:
- [show icon] Everything checks out – the account details you’ve entered match the details held by the recipient’s bank.
- [show icon] Worth a second look – The details you’ve entered are close to the recipient’s bank details but aren’t an exact match.
- [show icon] Details don’t match – The details you’ve entered don’t match the recipient’s bank records.
Leading the Way in Payment Security
Confirmation of Payee is another example of Payment Logic’s ongoing investment in payment security, helping give businesses greater confidence that payments go to the intended account.
Confirmation of Payee is a welcome enhancement to our industry leading security offering – Payment Guardian. Payment Guardian provides you with enhanced security checks typically not available via traditional payment methods (e.g. EFT or card).
Why is Confirmation of Payee Important?
Confirmation of Payee helps to stop Authorised Push Payment fraud/scams. In these scams, hackers may intercept an email and change bank details on a valid invoice. Confirmation of Payee also helps stop lost funds caused by human error (mistyping digits within a supplier’s bank details).
As of 2026, most major and regional banks in Australia have fully implemented Confirmation of Payee. There is no good reason to use a payments platform that does not already offer this service.
How do I use it?
You don’t need to activate anything. Confirmation of Payee is already available in Payment Logic. When you add or edit a payee’s bank account details you will be given the match result before you make a payment.
