Why is Payment Speed Important?
In Australia today, payment speed is critical. Real-time payments are no longer a “nice-to-have” feature, but are becoming a basic expectation from Australian businesses.
As businesses become more familiar with the New Payments Platform (NPP) and the upcoming decommissioning of older systems like BECS (Bulk Electronic Clearing System), payment speed will be crucial to the long term survival for many businesses.
NPP Sponsored Participant
Payment Logic is an NPP “sponsored participant”. This means that Payment Logic has a direct connection to Australia’s real-time payments network. This means that Payment Logic can receive and transfer funds faster than traditional bill payment service providers (BPSP).
Payment Logic is currently the only bill payment service provider in Australia who is an NPP sponsored participant.
Card Payments
For a business, paying via credit card is less about “borrowing money” and more about strategic cash flow management. In the Australian market of 2026, where “instant” is the standard, credit cards offer a unique way to decouple when you buy from when you actually pay.
When using a bill payment service provider like Payment Logic, businesses can pay any valid business invoice using a card, even when those suppliers don’t accept cards directly.
The traditional timeframe for a card payment via a bill payment service provider T + 2 (transaction date + 2 days).
- Day 0 – card transaction is processed
- Day 1 – settlement funds are received by the bill payment service provider
- Day 1 – funds are disbursed to payee/supplier
- Day 2 – funds available in payee/supplier’s bank account (exact timeframes depend on the sending & receiving bank)
Fast Payments
As an NPP sponsored participant, Payment Logic disburses all EFT payments via the NPP.
Unlike other providers, Payment Logic uses the BSB and Account Number for EFT payments, and sends each payment real-time as long as the receiving bank is connected to the NPP. Currently, over 97% of our EFT disbursements are real-time using the NPP.
Card payments processed by Payment Logic are T + 1, and not T + 2. This could be a total time savings of 1 whole business day for payments compared to other bill payment service providers.
How Does This Work?
With Payment Logic, no additional action is required to achieve fast payments. Payment instructions are received using traditional BSB and Account Numbers. Our customers do not have to request specific Pay IDs from their suppliers (unlike what some other platforms require).
As long as the receiving bank is connected to the NPP, EFT disbursements are automatically processed via a real-time payment. If the receiving bank isn’t connected to the NPP, the payment is automatically processed using traditional (overnight) EFT.
Leading the Way in Payment Security
Becoming an NPP sponsored participant is another example of Payment Logic’s ongoing investment in payment security. Modern NPP infrastructure includes security features that are not available in traditional EFT rails, like Confirmation of Payee for example.
Real-time payment disbursement via EFT also enables instant confirmation that funds are received by the recipient bank account (another feature not available via traditional EFT).
